On any given day or hour, renewable fuel sources may power the lion’s share of the Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM). But this feature chart shows the big picture, but looking at what’s happening month by month.
In January 2007, fossil fuels powered roughly 94% of the NEM. Renewables were just 6%. In October 2024, fossil fuels had slid to roughly 57% and renewables had climbed to 48%.
