Emissions Intensity

The emissions intensity of a fuel (e.g. coal) is the amount of greenhouse gas produced per unit of energy generated when we extract/burn or harness it.

It's measured in kg CO₂-e / MWh (kilograms of CO₂ equivalent per megawatt-hour). 1 MWh is roughly the energy a typical Australian home uses in 9 weeks.

Lower emissions intensity signifies a more efficient and environmentally friendly production process.
